Why there are so many unemployed engineers?
As you saw in my previous post, we talked about how the government is putting in efforts, but it is not helping students much.
In this
post, I want to talk about its effect on the country.
The process
of pursuing engineering is being made easier and easier with time just so the
students don’t feel pressured, are able to pass and become an engineer. This is
giving rise to unemployed engineers or engineers in other fields which have
nothing to do with engineering.
Let’s take the example of computer science engineers.
Go and search the news; Indian Computer
Engineers are ruining the open source.
You can
find many more; this is just one example.
So, the
question is why is it happening? Yes, the process to become an engineer
requires little to no effort today but why did the government make it so easy?
As we saw
in the last post, it’s to keep up with the pressure on students and suicide but
then shouldn’t we blame the student for not putting efforts?
Its answer
lies when we look at 5 years in the past in that child’s life, when they were
pushed for JEE to become a good engineer and before that into taking science to
become an engineer.
The child’s
decision had already been taken by someone who barely knew them when the kid
did not know what engineering was, or about any other career options. The child
did not know that they could be a historian, an artist, a writer, a company
owner, etc. but the future of that little child was already decided. It’s similar
to when centuries ago, parents used to decide whom their child would marry the
moment they were born. Doesn’t it sound pathetic? Well, because it is.
The
government reduced the syllabus, practical work in classes and increased the
written work which is easier for the child to do with less mental effort. Just so
the stressed students can keep up with the course of becoming an engineer or a
doctor.
Consequently,
this has demotivated other children who love science to emigrate to other
countries instead of working here only, which is leading to brain-drain. This
has reduced the quality of engineers and doctors in our country as it is degrading
for engineers and doctors who work hard & wish to stay in the country for its
betterment.
Furthermore,
this has caused a reduction in the average pay an engineer gets as most of them
do not provide quality work; usually the ones who took science under pressure
in the first place.
Though
within that same crowd, there are also others who are thinking how amazing their
work is and are ready to put more efforts if they get proper pay, so they don’t
have to think about their basic survival and personal problems. They wish to create
something great for the world through the company because they can’t be good
engineers when they aren’t compensated fully for their efforts.
This shows
how low the minimum wage is in the country and how underpaid they are whereas,
in the previous picture, how can someone be underpaid if they are not being
creative and innovative in their designated field? How to pay those employees?
The company cannot pay those who aren’t willing to work but the ones who suffer
most are those who are willing to put in more work for better pay.
In
conclusion, just because the kids during their teenage years couldn’t do what
they wanted, the whole country is suffering. All the enthusiasts, creative
people, genius scientists, imaginators are suffering. They are struggling just
to survive and have their basic needs met in their life.
It hurts to
see the dark future of the country and children because of people’s closed
mindset which is why I want to help these kids. The reason I am building Codru
Education is that I want to help them all to work on things they want instead
of teaching them a defined syllabus to become a doctor or an engineer.
