Are you struggling to study?

Has studying become a huge burden & consumed your lives as a whole?

Do your thoughts constantly revolve around,

‘How my future will turn out?’

‘Will I be able to achieve something in life or not?’

‘What if I end up failing and nothing will work out the way we want it to be?’

The more you think about it, the scary it gets, right? And no matter how long you study or the source you study from doesn’t really contribute much because in the end when you sit in that exam hall the only thing you remember saying is,

“I did study it somewhere, but I don’t remember what it was.”

It’s almost as if your result is inversely proportional to the amount you study.

Don’t you feel how long you sit with your books; nothing really goes inside your head and all you feel is sleepy? It’s almost as if studying is boring and you have no choice but to continue doing it this way only? Isn’t it?

Well, let me tell you no that’s not how studying should be because it is supposed to be exciting and worth taking an interest in. You shouldn’t have to drag it just to pass your exams when it can be insighting and meaningful.

Want to know how? Keep Reading.

1.     Just start & fail.

Most of the time you are so scared to even start & end up not doing anything at all. You feel that either you won’t be able to understand the topic, or you won’t get it right even if you try. You do not allow yourself to even try and make mistakes and are so afraid of being wrong that you prefer not to do things at all. This not only stops you from learning but also from experiencing new things in life.

      2.     Start Small.

When you try to take on bigger tasks at once, you start feeling tired after some time and end up doing nothing at all.
Example: - You have a test next week but have no idea about how to study & when you look at the syllabus, all the chapters together it may feel daunting. You feel exhausted even without studying and then keep postponing it till the last moment. Then you just go through all the chapters once and score passing marks to make it through. You think of doing better next time and think of starting to study from earlier but that never happens. Right?

Is there anything that you can do about it? Start small and set smaller goals i.e., focus on one chapter at a time, just for 5 minutes. Then after some time, try studying for 10 minutes. Slowly increase the time and you will find yourself achieving your goals. This will also helps you in developing interest and will give you sense of accomplishment that you did so many tasks in small amount of time, motivating you to do more.

      3.     Give things time.

Many times, when you sit to study or have to do some work, you don’t understand how to do things at first and end up getting irritated & frustrated, then never sit to do it again. You make a conclusion that either you are just dumb, or this is way too hard.

No, you are not dumb, and you can work on it to make it easier for yourself, because be it thinking of ideas or understanding a topic, everything takes time. When you will give things time, you will also allow ourselves to explore and ponder over various questions and eventually find their answers.

So, every day give yourself time by sitting and let your mind wander even though nothing makes sense for the first few days.

    4.     Don’t let other’s judgement stop you.

Let’s suppose you think of an idea about a project, or a doubt comes to your mind in class but the very next minute you also think,

“What will others think about my idea? Is it even good enough?”

“What if no one will accept it and will make fun of me?”

    “What if I look stupid?”

Due to these questions, you stop yourself from doing things then neither you are able to ask your doubts nor work on the project. These thoughts create a barrier in expressing yourself and stifle your creativity.

Other people’s opinions affect our growth and development, this is why we need to learn how to work through it.

First, ask yourself how important that doubt or project is for you. If you don’t work on it today, how will it affect you in the future? Figure out why you want to do it and remind yourself again and again whenever you feel affected by these doubts.

Second, this fear of judgement comes when you are afraid of being wrong or afraid to fail. So, as mentioned in the first point, learn to allow yourself to fail.

Today take a moment to sit by yourself and think about the things you would want to do if no one is watching you and are allowed to fail and mess up.
